Midday Sun in Winter

This is a fairly typical winter day, with fairly high clouds completely covering the skies.

My Australian cousin spent a year as an exchange student in the Midwest. He was constantly saying "It's so DARK in this country!" I guess if you are raised north of the Tropic of Capricorn, the sun here seems a mere echo.
