I live on a ridge. There are very few places on my land that are flat - if you aren't going uphill, you are must likely going downhill. This year has been very wet, and the soil is clay, making for thick, obnoxious mud. We have now had a week of below-freezing weather, and the ground is quite solid. Unfortunately it froze just exactly like it was when muddy.
This is my main path. It holds the footprints of everyone who travelled it over the week before the freeze. It is a challenge walking up or downhill on this extremely uneven - but very solid - surface. Winter fun.
